Neurobiology, B.S. Neuroscience is the scientific study of the central (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral (nerves in body) nervous system. The neurobiology major at UW–Madison will provide a rigorous education in neuroscience principles that will prepare students for health-related careers (physician, physician assistant, veterinarian, dentist, All Neurobiology majors receive essential coursework in molecular and cell biology, as well as rigorous training in specific neurobiology courses. The neuroscience concentration within the biology major encourages students to take courses covering the cellular and subcellular levels (molecular and genetic properties, cell and membrane physiology, neurochemistry), systemic levels (neuroanatomy, sensory and reflex function, brain The basis of neurological disease, molecular mechanisms of brain function, and behavior are major foci of research in medicine, biotechnology, and academia. The Neurobiology Concentration provides fundamental training in brain physiology, coupled with a background in molecular genetics that is essential for understanding the molecular mechanisms of brain function at the gene and protein levels.
