Back in April 2019, we addressed questions we were receiving from the law library community after the U.S. News announced that they were considering evaluating U.S. law school scholarly impact and would be using HeinOnline as the source for the citation data. Since then, we have worked with several schools HeinOnline has added a metric to its ScholarCheck Author Ranking which will place a higher value on more recent scholarship (within the past 10 years) than on scholarship older than 10 years. Under the new formula, an author’s overall ScholarRank will be composed of four equally-weighted components: (1) the number of times the author has been cited HeinOnline Law Journal Library Indexed by Google Scholar. We provide the metadata for and allow Google Scholar to crawl the content from HeinOnline’s Law Journal Library. The HeinOnline Law Journal Library currently contains more than 2,900 law and law related journals and is comprised of articles, notes, comments, reviews, legislation, cases, HeinOnline is a premier online research platform that provides more than 192 million pages of multidisciplinary periodicals, essential government documents, international resources, case law, and much more.

The Z-score for each of the five metrics is taken and then averaged; the final average is entered into standard competition ranking to produce the overall ScholarRank for each author. Using the three ScholarCheck quantifying categories, an analysis is run called ScholarRank, in which all articles in HeinOnline are gathered and ranked in each category.
